The PMRC Rondo Cup 2025, the latest PUBG Mobile esports tournament, concluded this past weekend with team Yangon Galacticos emerging as the champions. Their victory not only crowned them winners but also secured them the lion's share of the $20,000 prize pool offered by PUBG.
The tournament was hosted on PUBG's newest and largest map to date, Rondo. This map saw 16 teams compete, each having earned their spot through various qualifying tournaments such as D'Xavier at PMSL SEA Spring, Rangers at PMCL Spring, and R3GICIDE at PMSL CSA Fall.
Yangon Galacticos clinched the win under the PMRC Rondo Cup's innovative SMASH format rules. According to these rules, a team needed to accumulate over 30 points and secure a victory in a separate match to claim the title. However, after six matches, no team met these criteria, leading to Yangon Galacticos' victory due to their commanding points lead.
HORAA Esports and Bigetron Esports secured the second and third places, respectively, underscoring the success of the Rondo Cup and PUBG Mobile's ambitious esports initiatives that have been gaining momentum since 2024.
Interestingly, the inaugural tournament to introduce the SMASH rule did not see a winner through this method, raising questions about its future use. Whether the SMASH format will return in future tournaments will depend on the organizers' assessment of its impact on promoting skilled and entertaining gameplay.
