According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has canceled an unannounced paid DLC for their popular game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned story expansion was set to launch this year alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the decision to cancel came this week, with sources citing that the content volume did not justify the proposed price tag. Warner Bros. did not respond to Bloomberg's request for comment on the matter.
This cancellation comes amidst a broader restructuring of Warner Bros.' gaming division, prompted by ongoing financial challenges. Earlier in the year, the company made significant moves by canceling the planned Wonder Woman game and shutting down the studios responsible for it, including Monolith Productions, WB San Diego, and the MultiVersus studio, Player First Games. Additionally, layoffs occurred at Rocksteady Studios as recently as last September.
Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of Hogwarts Legacy and the Harry Potter franchise as key assets. The company has publicly stated that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is a top priority, as it shifts focus towards developing fewer but larger franchises. This strategic direction is underscored by the impressive sales figures of the original game, which has sold over 30 million copies.
