How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria

To begin pursuing a romance with Caldarus, you must first break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60 of the Mines. To do this, gather four specific items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot. Once you've placed the offering, a cutscene will trigger where the Mines Priestess warns the player to leave or risk being sealed along with the scroll.

As your character's health depletes, Caldarus arrives, assumes his human form, and uses the Dragon’s Breath spell before retreating to the Deep Woods. From here, you can interact with him like any other dateable NPC—giving gifts and engaging in daily conversations.

After breaking the seal, Caldarus resides exclusively at his temple in the Deep Woods. Use the Dragon’s Breath spell to permanently reveal the area on your map, allowing easy access for future interactions.

Caldarus’ Heart Events in Fields of Mistria

As part of the March 2025 update, Caldarus starts at six hearts upon unlocking, which currently represents the maximum heart level cap. At this time, there are no additional heart events beyond the story-driven cutscenes that occur naturally during gameplay.

The first cutscene is a dream sequence that introduces players to the magical mechanics of *Fields of Mistria*. Later, after breaking the Fire Seal, Caldarus rescues the farmer from being trapped by the Sealing Scroll, revealing his human form before retreating to his temple.

However, one notable event does exist: Caldarus can be taken on a date during the Shooting Star Festival, which occurs annually on Summer 28.

The Shooting Star Festival

This festival allows players to take any romanceable character with at least four hearts on a date to the Summit to watch the stars. Since Caldarus begins at six hearts, he is automatically eligible for this event.

To ensure the date goes smoothly, gift him the Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28. Then meet him afterward to confirm your plans and initiate the cutscene. During the event, Caldarus thanks you for inviting him, reflects on the stars, and discusses the ancient Mistrian tradition of Starbinding.

You’ll also engage in a deep conversation about soul connections and the nature of relationships, including some subtle foreshadowing about past lives and emotional complexities. As fatigue sets in, Caldarus invites you to continue stargazing together at his temple.
