Four months after clinching the Best Screenplay award at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, where it received a remarkable 13-minute standing ovation, Coralie Fargeat's body horror satire, The Substance, made its way into US theaters. Since its release, the film has garnered numerous awards and nominations, including five nods at the Oscars. Featuring the now Oscar-nominated performances of Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley, IGN's 8/10 review praised The Substance for its incisive critique of celebrity culture's obsession with youth and beauty, describing it as a "sick, twisted, and squirm-inducing parable."
