In our review, IGN's Mitchell Saltzman noted that "Stellar Blade shines as a visually stunning and meticulously crafted action game, with strong points and some notable flaws. The narrative and characters may lack depth, and certain RPG mechanics, such as repetitive sidequests that force you to backtrack through familiar areas without much innovation, could be better. However, the game's combat, inspired by Sekiro, is robust and engaging, offering a variety of grotesque enemies to battle and plenty of secrets to discover, making exploration rewarding." IGN gave Stellar Blade a 7/10, but personally, I found it to be an exceptional experience worthy of a higher score. Although it didn't make our list of the best PS5 games of 2024 due to its recent release (games must be out for at least six months to qualify), it's definitely a title to watch.

Stellar Blade is a graphically intensive game, and I recommend playing it in "Performance" mode to maintain a smooth 60fps. Owners of the PlayStation 5 Pro, however, can enjoy the "Enhanced" 4K mode while still achieving impressive frame rates. According to the official PlayStation blog, "With PS5 Pro, players can experience Stellar Blade in 4K resolution at 50fps or higher, with smoother gameplay and enhanced detail thanks to PSSR upscale mode. Additionally, the HFR (high framerate) option is available, allowing for a seamless 80fps experience with a 120hz display."
