Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Release Date Revealed

Apr 25,2025 Author: Nora

Mark your calendars, Sonic fans! The blue blur is set to dash back into theaters with Sonic the Hedgehog 4 on March 19, 2027. According to Variety, Paramount has officially announced this release date, giving us just two years to wait before we can see Sonic's next big-screen adventure. While details about the plot and new characters remain under wraps, the anticipation is already building.

The decision to greenlight another film comes as no surprise, given the phenomenal success of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The latest installment raked in an impressive $218 million at the domestic box office and soared past $420 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film in the Sonic franchise. This achievement is particularly noteworthy considering the initial controversy surrounding Sonic's design in the first movie, which was later revamped in post-production.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 also holds the title of the second highest-grossing video game movie of all time in North America, only surpassed by the animated Super Mario Bros. Movie. This continues the long-standing rivalry between Nintendo and Sega, now playing out on the big screen.

The live-action Sonic franchise has been expanding steadily, now boasting three feature films and a Knuckles streaming TV show spinoff. Based on the beloved Sega video game series, the films center around Sonic, voiced by Ben Schwartz, as he battles his arch-nemesis, Dr. Robotnik, portrayed by Jim Carrey. Each new movie has introduced more iconic characters from the Sonic universe, including Tails (voiced by Colleen O'Shaughnessey) and Knuckles (voiced by Idris Elba). The most recent film also brought in Shadow the Hedgehog, voiced by Keanu Reeves.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has teased the introduction of yet another character to the franchise, but we'll keep that a surprise for now.
