HBO has officially announced that The Last of Us Season 2 will premiere on Sunday, April 13 at 9pm ET/PT, and will also be available for streaming on Max. This eagerly awaited season will consist of seven episodes. To mark the occasion, HBO has unveiled new character posters featuring Joel, Ellie, and Abby.
Set five years after the gripping events of the first season, Season 2 will follow Joel and Ellie as they settle into life with Joel's brother Tommy at their commune in Montana. Fans of the video game series will recognize the storyline as it adapts The Last of Us Part II, promising a familiar yet fresh narrative arc.
Joining Pedro Pascal, who reprises his role as Joel, and Bella Ramsey, returning as Ellie, is a stellar new cast. Kaitlyn Dever takes on the role of Abby, while Isabela Merced, Young Mazino, Ariela Barer, and Tati Gabrielle portray Dina, Jesse, Mel, and Nora respectively. Notably, Tati Gabrielle is also set to star as the main protagonist in Naughty Dog's upcoming game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

The first season of The Last of Us was a monumental success for HBO. Co-created by Craig Mazin of Chernobyl fame and Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann, the series garnered numerous Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards and was nominated for five Primetime Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actor, Lead Actress, Outstanding Director, and Outstanding Writing.
Given the success of the first season, HBO is enthusiastic about the future of the series. Francesca Orsi, HBO's executive, has hinted that The Last of Us is planned to span four seasons, indicating that Season 2 will not cover the entire second game.
