As one HBO primetime hit concludes its run—*The White Lotus* has said its final goodbye—it’s time for a new powerhouse series to step into the spotlight. Two years after *The Last of Us* first captivated audiences on Max, the critically acclaimed video game adaptation featuring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey is set to return for Season 2.
Both the original game and the first season of the show end on a gripping cliffhanger—one with lasting consequences. For fans who have already experienced *The Last of Us Part 2*, especially those who’ve played the sequel, the anticipation (and perhaps a bit of anxiety) builds as the story prepares to unfold on screen. In IGN’s review of Season 2, Simon Cardy notes that adapting *The Last of Us Part 2*—with its complex narrative and emotional depth—was always going to be a monumental task. That’s why the decision was made to continue the adaptation across a third season.
Whether you're preparing to watch the Season 2 premiere or catching up on Season 1, here's everything you need to know about *The Last of Us* Season 2:

From IGN’s 10/10 review of The Last of Us Part 2:
"The Last of Us Part 2 is a masterpiece worthy of its predecessor. Taking strides forward in nearly every way, Ellie steps into the spotlight and carries the sequel in a manner that feels like the culmination of everything that’s made Naughty Dog’s blockbuster storytelling so memorable since the original Uncharted on the PlayStation 3."
Both The Last of Us games have received remastered editions, with Part 2 recently launching on PC. A new “Complete Edition” combining both titles has also been announced, with a physical release planned for this summer. In celebration of the franchise, Sony even released a special edition DualSense controller inspired by the series.
For Season 2, the creative team includes The Last of Us game co-creator Neil Druckmann and award-winning writer Craig Mazin (Chernobyl). They are joined by Haley Gross, who co-wrote The Last of Us Part 2. Each episode is directed by a different filmmaker, including Mark Mylod (Succession, The Menu, Game of Thrones), Peter Hoar (It's a Sin, Daredevil, Doctor Who), and Stephen Williams (Lost).
