If you've been curious about diving into VR gaming but hesitated due to the cost, this could be the perfect opportunity. Amazon is offering a fantastic deal on the Meta Quest 3S 256GB VR headset, dropping the price by $50 to just $349. This is a significant saving compared to the base 128GB model, which only costs $50 less. The additional storage makes it ideal for gamers who prefer to keep multiple high-quality games installed for seamless, untethered play.
This deal is arguably better than any Black Friday offers, which often came with conditional discounts like digital credits or gift cards. To make the deal even sweeter, the package includes a copy of Batman: Arkham Shadow, along with a three-month trial of Meta Quest+. IGN praised the game, noting that it translates much of the Arkham series’ iconic gameplay effectively into VR, with a compelling mystery storyline.
The Quest 3S is an impressive upgrade over the Quest 2, delivering enhanced performance without a higher price tag. It shares many features with the more expensive Quest 3, such as the advanced Touch Plus controllers, the upgraded Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor, and support for full-color AR passthrough. IGN awarded it a glowing 9/10 review, praising its raw processing power, immersive mixed-reality capabilities, and responsive controls.
One standout feature of the Quest 3S is its ability to operate completely untethered. This means you can enjoy games like Beat Saber or Pistol Whip without needing a high-end gaming PC or PS5. Finding another standalone VR headset at this price point is virtually impossible.
While the Quest 3S is priced at $200 less than the Quest 3, it still delivers an excellent experience. Below are the key differences:
| Feature | Quest 3S | Quest 3 |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 | Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 |
| Controllers | Touch Plus | Touch Plus |
| Refresh Rate | 120Hz | 120Hz |
| Mixed Reality Passthrough | Same cameras, different layout | Same cameras, different layout |
| Per-Eye Resolution | 1832x1920 | 2064x2208 |
| Lens Type | Fresnel | Pancake |
| Field of View (FOV) | 96°/90° | 104°/96° |
| Storage Capacity | 128GB | 512GB |
| Battery Life | 2.5 hours | 2.2 hours |
In essence, the Quest 3S offers similar hardware with slightly reduced optics compared to the Quest 3. However, running at a lower resolution reduces strain on the processor, potentially improving performance and extending battery life.
For its price, the Quest 3S is undeniably the better value proposition, making it an excellent choice for most gamers. Even compared to the previous-generation Quest 2, the decision is clear.
