The Samsung 990 Evo Plus is a fantastic drive for your gaming PC and PS5. Exceeding Sony's minimum speed requirements, it boasts sequential read and write speeds of up to 7,250 MB/s and 6,300 MB/s respectively. It's significantly faster than the standard 990 Evo, though not quite as fast as the 990 Pro. The key difference? This drive lacks DRAM. However, this is irrelevant for PS5 performance, and for PCs, the 990 Evo Plus utilizes HMB (host memory buffer), borrowing a negligible amount of system RAM. Gamers will barely notice any performance gap between this and the 990 Pro.
This SSD doesn't include a pre-installed heatsink. But, its newer single-sided design is energy-efficient and generates less heat than older SSDs. This means a heatsink is likely unnecessary, even in a PS5. However, adding one for extra peace of mind is perfectly acceptable (expect to spend around $7 extra).
