To achieve the best ending in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, completing specific tasks is crucial, with saving Sam being a pivotal one. Knowing where to find Sam and how to rescue him effectively is essential for those aiming for perfection.
Rescuing Sam During "Reckoning"
As you approach the culmination of the main quest line, you'll discover that Sam is being held captive at Praguer's Camp, captured by Brabant. Your opportunity to save him arises during the main quest "Reckoning." You won't be able to simply stroll into the camp and liberate him; instead, you'll need to choose between stealth or direct confrontation.
To move freely within the camp, you'll require a guard's outfit. You can obtain one by either eliminating a guard and taking his attire, ensuring to conceal the body, or by searching the camp's numerous chests. Once you have the outfit equipped, you can explore the camp without arousing suspicion as you search for Sam.

Sam is located in the barn on the left side of the camp, beyond the open area with a cooking fire. To reach him, use the ladder on the side of the barn to descend inside, where you'll encounter Brabant. At this juncture, you face a critical decision: you can either kill or spare Brabant. Opting to spare him contributes to achieving the best ending, though the final choice is yours.
When to Rescue Sam
After freeing Sam, it's not yet time to escort him out of the camp. Sam informs you about von Aulitz, who is also present in the camp. It's advisable to deal with von Aulitz first, then secure a horse, and finally return to Sam to safely extract him. Sam can wait a bit longer without issue, and completing these tasks in this sequence simplifies the process, especially since you'll need to carry him to the horse.
Von Aulitz can be found in the main section of the camp. Wearing the guard's outfit allows you to enter his quarters unchallenged. Upon finding von Aulitz, who is already on the brink of death, he requests a dignified end. Granting him this honorable death is the most respectful choice. Alternatively, you can kill him brutally or leave him to die slowly. While these choices have minor impacts, leaving him to die actually contributes to the best ending.
Your final tasks are to retrieve Sam and secure a horse. Sam remains in the barn where you left him. If questioned by a guard about Sam, simply state that you're moving a body, which will dispel any suspicion. Exit through the camp gates, turn right, and proceed along the camp's exterior.
