Sadie Sink Denies Jean Grey Rumors, Calls Them 'Awesome'

Earlier this month, Sadie Sink, renowned for her role as Max Mayfield in the hit series *Stranger Things*, was reported to join the cast of Spider-Man 4 alongside Tom Holland. According to Deadline, Sink, who debuted in the 2016 film *Chuck*, will feature in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie, set to commence filming later this year with a release date of July 31, 2026.
While Marvel and Sony remained silent when approached by *Deadline*, the outlet speculated that Sink might portray the iconic X-Men character Jean Grey or another cherished redheaded character from the Spider-Man universe.
IGN further explored the potential roles Sadie Sink could take on in *Spider-Man 4* and future MCU projects, sparking curiosity among fans.
In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz, Sadie Sink remained elusive about the Jean Grey speculation, though she admitted the rumor was "awesome." She said, "This is news to me," when asked about the Jean Grey / X-Men rumor. When pressed further on whether she had discussed the role with Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige or any Marvel representative, Sink responded, "No. I have nothing to say about this." However, she expressed enthusiasm about the rumors, stating, "The rumors are really cool though. It’s an awesome rumor!" Sink also praised the character of Jean Grey, saying, "It’s a great character, so it was cool to read!" She showed excitement about the prospect of joining the MCU for an extended period, noting, "I think that’s super exciting."
The conversation ended with Sink keeping her potential involvement under wraps, but Horowitz hinted at revisiting the topic once her role in the MCU is confirmed.
Last year, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige hinted at the inclusion of X-Men characters in upcoming MCU films, stating at the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore that fans would see "some X-Men players that you might recognize" in the next few MCU movies. He further elaborated on the integration of the X-Men, saying, "I think you will see that continues in our next few movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize. Right after that, the whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men. Again, [it’s] one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back."
Feige's comments suggest that the next few MCU movies, potentially including *Captain America: Brave New World*, *Thunderbolts*, and *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* in July 2025, could feature mutants. However, it's more likely that Phase 6 movies like *Avengers: Doomsday*, *Spider-Man 4*, and *Avengers: Secret Wars* in 2026 and 2027 will showcase more mutant characters. This raises questions about the return of characters like Deadpool and Wolverine, and whether Channing Tatum could reprise his role as Gambit.
Feige also emphasized the importance of the X-Men in the MCU's future following *Secret Wars*, stating, "When we were preparing for Avengers: Endgame years ago, it was a question of getting to the grand finale of our narrative, and then we had to start all over again after that. This time, on the road to Secret Wars, we already know very well what the story is going to be until then and afterwards. The X-Men are an important part of that future."
It appears that Phase 7 of the MCU will be heavily focused on the X-Men. In the short term, the character Storm made her debut in the MCU in What If...? Season 3.
Additionally, Marvel Studios added three untitled movie projects to its 2028 release schedule, slated for February 18, 2028, May 5, 2028, and November 10, 2028. It seems increasingly likely that one of these films will be dedicated to the X-Men.
With the exciting release of the first trailer for *Jurassic World: Rebirth*, we're bringing back an insightful opinion piece from Max Scoville that originally appeared a few years ago. It's worth noting that Max's perspective on the franchise remains unchanged, and his thoughts are just as relevant
