The much-anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is set to launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5. This edition includes the beloved original Nintendo Switch game, now enhanced for the Switch 2, along with the addition of Zelda Notes through the Nintendo Switch app. You can preorder it now, with options available at retailers like Target.
Available on June 5, this edition is priced at $69.99 at Target, $69.00 at Walmart, and $69.99 at GameStop. Notably, Nintendo has not offered any discounts on this version, requiring full price for the original Switch game with an additional $10 for the Switch 2 upgrade, which might feel a bit steep to some fans.
This edition bundles the original Switch game with the Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack. If you already own the game for the original Switch, you can purchase the upgrade pack separately for $10, offering a cost-saving option for existing players.
For those who own Breath of the Wild and are subscribed to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, the upgrade to the Switch 2 Edition comes at no extra cost, included in your subscription. This is a considerate move amidst the additional expenses associated with the new console rollout.
This package contains the full original Switch game, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, along with the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack. The upgrade enhances performance with faster frame rates, quicker load times, improved resolution, and better textures. This means the game will look and run better on the Nintendo Switch 2 than it ever did on the original Switch.
From our original review of Breath of the Wild: "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a masterclass in open-world design and a groundbreaking game that reimagines a 30-year-old franchise. It presents a captivating sandbox filled with mystery, offering countless intriguing elements that invite exploration. Each adventure in Breath of the Wild feels unique, layered with stories upon stories. Even after more than 50 hours exploring Hyrule, I continue to discover new elements, and I anticipate spending another 50 to 100 hours uncovering its fascinating moments."
