The much-anticipated sequel in the sci-fi action franchise, *Predator: Badlands*, has just unveiled its teaser trailer, sending fans into a frenzy of excitement. In this sneak peek, we're introduced to Elle Fanning's character, who seems to inhabit a perilous, futuristic remote planet. What sets this installment apart is the unique portrayal of the Predator, hinted to be not just another antagonist but possibly the protagonist. The teaser boldly declares, "The director of Prey welcomes you to a world of pain," setting the stage for an intense cinematic experience.
Apart from introducing a new kind of Predator, the trailer includes intriguing nods to the *Alien* universe, sparking speculation about potential connections to an *Aliens vs Predator* crossover. Notably, Elle Fanning's character exhibits the iconic Weyland Yutani reboot effect in her eyes, similar to what we've seen in *Alien: Romulus*, suggesting she might be a synthetic. Furthermore, a glimpse of the Weyland Yutani logo—the notorious megacorporation central to the *Alien* franchise—is visible on a damaged vehicle.
*Predator: Badlands* was announced to be in development in February 2024, with its release date set for November 7, 2025. Although the trailer debuted exclusively at CinemaCon earlier this month, this marks the first public reveal for eager fans.
20th Century Studios also provided an official synopsis at CinemaCon: "In the future on a remote planet, a young Predator, outcast from his clan, finds an unlikely ally in Thia and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary."
Elle Fanning shared some exciting insights at CinemaCon, stating, "Something unprecedented happens in this movie. My character is not the one being chased. My character actually teams up with the Predator. And you get to see him in a completely new light. And... I'll stop there!"
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, known for *10 Cloverfield Lane* and the *Predator* prequel *Prey*, *Predator: Badlands* was co-written by Trachtenberg and Patrick Aison. The film promises to bring a fresh perspective to the beloved franchise, set to premiere in theaters on November 7, 2025.
