The Pokémon Company has confirmed that Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be joining its competitive circuit in the near future. Dive into the details to discover more about Pokémon TCG Pocket’s trajectory in the competitive landscape and explore the potential reasons behind this decision.
Pokémon TCG Pocket Won’t Be In The Competitive Scene Just Yet
No Plans For Competitive Pocket

At present, there are no plans to integrate Pokémon TCG Pocket into Pokémon’s competitive circuit. Chris Brown, The Pokémon Company’s Director of eSports, shared in a VGC interview on February 25, 2025, that while they continuously assess potential additions to the competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket is not slated for inclusion yet.
Brown humorously mentioned "Pokemon Sleep is out there too," referencing the company's April Fool’s parody trailer for the Pokemon Sleep Champion Tournament. He emphasized, however, that "at this time there are no plans for Pokemon Pocket to join, but we’re always looking at things."
Too Early And Unbalanced

Although The Pokémon Company hasn't provided specific reasons for excluding Pokémon TCG Pocket from the competitive scene, fans have speculated on several possibilities. The game, which launched in October 2024, is still in its early stages, having released only two sets in its first four months.
Despite featuring competitive elements within the app since its launch, players have been vocal about ongoing balancing issues. Pokémon TCG Pocket, being a simplified version of the original Pokémon card game, focuses more on providing a beginner-friendly experience rather than fostering a competitive environment.
Nevertheless, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit continues to host a variety of events, including Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite, all of which will be showcased at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025 in Anaheim, California.
