In 2023, the low-budget horror film Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, made for a mere $50,000, raked in over $5 million at the box office. This success seemingly launched a trend: beloved childhood stories entering the public domain are now prime targets for gory reimaginings within the "Twisted Child Universe." The latest addition to this unsettling franchise, Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare, offers a terrifying twist on the classic tale of the boy who never grew up and his mischievous fairy companion, Tinker Bell.
IGN critic Matt Donato, in his review, highlights director Scott Jeffrey's approach: "Director Scott Jeffrey strives to accentuate his main character’s arrested adolescence by turning the boy who never grew up into a serial killer and kidnapper – keeping him more grounded than the typical pirates-and-fairies image of Peter Pan.” While this is the first new entry to the Twisted Universe since the Blood and Honey films, more twisted adaptations of classic children's stories are in the works, culminating in a planned multiverse crossover event.

Based on this pattern, Neverland Nightmare could be available for on-demand rental by the end of January and might stream on Peacock around July.
