"Peacemaker Season 2: Release Date and New Footage Revealed"

Apr 28,2025 Author: Aaron

DC Studios boss James Gunn has exciting news for fans, confirming that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. Accompanying this announcement, Gunn shared a brief snippet of new footage, showcasing John Cena's character in action, complete with a smirk directed at the camera amidst a backdrop of flames. In the clip, Peacemaker is referred to as "a superhero now," hinting at an evolution in his character arc.

In a tweet, Gunn expressed his enthusiasm, stating that the Season 2 premiere is "one of my favorite things ever." He also mentioned recently completing the DI & Mix on the premiere, underscoring his hands-on involvement in the project.

Counting the days until Peace on Earth. I just finished the DI & Mix on the Season Premiere yesterday and wow it’s one of my favorite things ever. DC Studios’ #Peacemaker Season 2 coming soon only on @StreamOnMax August 21. pic.twitter.com/df3yOcCsdn

Peacemaker Season 2 follows the release of Superman on July 11, marking the beginning of Gunn's rebooted DCU. It will be the third entry in this new universe, following last year's Creature Commandos TV series and the upcoming Superman film.

Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are steering the DCU away from the criticized DC Extended Universe, which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, certain elements from the old universe will carry over. Peacemaker serves as a prime example, having debuted in the DCEU with Season 1 and now transitioning into the new DCU with Season 2.

Gunn has previously mentioned that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though specifics on what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU remain undisclosed. He has confirmed that all members of Team Peacemaker will return, with the same actors reprising their roles. This includes John Cena as Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Additionally, Gunn has stated that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting Peacemaker's storyline.
