Peacemaker Season 2 follows the release of Superman on July 11, marking the beginning of Gunn's rebooted DCU. It will be the third entry in this new universe, following last year's Creature Commandos TV series and the upcoming Superman film.

Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are steering the DCU away from the criticized DC Extended Universe, which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, certain elements from the old universe will carry over. Peacemaker serves as a prime example, having debuted in the DCEU with Season 1 and now transitioning into the new DCU with Season 2.

Gunn has previously mentioned that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though specifics on what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU remain undisclosed. He has confirmed that all members of Team Peacemaker will return, with the same actors reprising their roles. This includes John Cena as Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Additionally, Gunn has stated that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting Peacemaker's storyline.
