It's the day before the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, with less than 24 hours remaining until Nintendo unveils its plans for the next generation of its iconic console. Amidst the excitement, a recent Federal Communications Commission (FCC) filing has surfaced, potentially hinting at what's to come in the Switch 2 controller lineup.
As first noted on Famiboards and subsequently covered by Nintendo-focused outlets like GoNintendo, an FCC filing dated March 31 from Nintendo, under the product code "BEE-008," appears to be a registration for a new game controller. Some enthusiasts speculate that this could be the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller.
It's important to clarify that this is currently speculation, as Nintendo has not officially confirmed any details about a Switch 2 Pro Controller. However, certain features listed in the filing, such as Bluetooth and NFC capabilities, suggest that it might indeed be a Pro Controller.
One notable aspect of this filing is the potential inclusion of a headphone jack in the Switch 2 Pro Controller. Unlike the original Switch Pro Controller, which lacked this feature, the inclusion of a headphone jack would align the Switch 2 Pro Controller with competitors like the DualSense and Xbox Series controllers, enhancing user convenience. If these speculations hold true, the addition of a headphone jack would be a significant quality-of-life improvement for gamers. Past FCC filings from Nintendo have occasionally offered early glimpses into the company's plans, lending some credibility to these speculations. However, without further leaks, we'll likely have to wait for tomorrow's Switch 2 Direct for official confirmation.
The Switch 2 Direct is scheduled to air tomorrow at 6am PT / 9am ET on Nintendo's channels. This event promises to provide a "closer look" at the Switch 2 following its initial reveal earlier this year, and hopefully, it will shed light on the potential release date and other exciting details.
Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 Direct will last for an hour. Additionally, two Nintendo Treehouse: Live | Nintendo Switch 2 presentations featuring hands-on gameplay are planned for April 3 and April 4, starting at 7am PT each day.
