Nintendo has announced the upgrade costs for transitioning two popular titles from the original Nintendo Switch to the new Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. Both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree come with a hefty price tag for the upgrade, significantly higher than what was seen with previous titles.
Previously, upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from their original Switch versions to the Switch 2 Edition cost $9.99 each. However, as NintendoLife has noted, the upgrade packs for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are priced much higher, more than double the cost of the Zelda titles.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild offers improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" feature on the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original version on the Switch can access these enhancements by purchasing an "upgrade pack" for $10.
The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content in the "Star-Crossed World." Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree's Switch 2 Edition includes "Jamboree TV," which leverages the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the separately sold Switch 2 USB-C camera. It also boasts upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, an improved frame rate, new minigames, and enhanced online features.
While U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop are yet to be confirmed—potentially due to uncertainties surrounding President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop lists the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade pack at £16.99 / €19.99, which is over double the £7.99 / €9.99 charged for upgrading either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom. The same price applies to the Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV upgrade, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99.
The higher $20 upgrade cost for both games may be influenced by the $80 price tag for the full Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV. These are $20 more expensive than their original Switch versions, which retail at $59.99 each.
For those not upgrading, here are the U.S. prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 Editions:
- Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
- Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99
It's worth noting that both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom upgrade packs are available at no extra cost to Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers. However, no such offer exists for those looking to upgrade Kirby or Party Jamboree at this time.
Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 went live on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. Nintendo has warned U.S. customers who pre-ordered through the My Nintendo Store that due to high demand, release date delivery is not guaranteed.
