Since its inception in 2007, Netflix has been a dominant force in the streaming industry, captivating audiences with blockbuster series like Stranger Things, Squid Game, and Black Mirror, among countless others. However, recent changes in Netflix's policy on account sharing have shifted the landscape, prompting many to reassess their subscriptions amidst a plethora of competitive streaming services. With the rising costs and the need to manage monthly expenses, it's crucial to consider the current pricing structure of Netflix before deciding to subscribe, upgrade, or cancel your plan.
AnswerSee ResultsWhether you're contemplating your first Netflix subscription, returning for a specific show or movie, or finally getting your own account after years of sharing, this guide is designed to help you navigate Netflix's current offerings. With a clear understanding of the plans available, you can make an informed decision tailored to your needs.
What's on Netflix in May 2024As of April 2025, Netflix offers three main plans: Standard with Ads, Standard, and Premium. Each plan has unique features and pricing, and we'll break them down below. It's worth noting that Netflix previously had a Basic plan priced at $9.99/month, but it was discontinued for new and rejoining members in July 2024. Existing Basic plan subscribers can retain their plan until they decide to switch or cancel.
In January 2025, Netflix introduced new pricing, effective from January 21, 2025. For detailed information on adding extra members, please refer to the Netflix help page.
Unfortunately, Netflix no longer offers a free trial. If you're looking for alternatives, consider free trials from Hulu, Prime Video, Paramount+, and others in 2025.
Introduced in November 2022 in several countries, the Standard with Ads plan fulfills a long-standing demand for a more affordable option. At $7.99/month, it includes access to nearly all of Netflix's movies and TV shows, along with unlimited mobile games like Oxenfree and Spiritfarer. You can stream on two supported devices simultaneously, making it a practical choice for households. Additionally, this plan offers streaming in Full HD (1080p), an upgrade from the Basic plan's 720p.
The Standard plan is ideal for those in multi-person households who desire higher resolution viewing. Priced at $17.99/month, it provides ad-free access to Netflix's entire library and Full HD streaming. This plan supports streaming on two devices and downloading on two devices at once, which is perfect for shared viewing and offline watching. It also offers the ability to add an extra member outside your household for $6.99/month (with ads) or $8.99/month (without ads), a valuable feature given Netflix's stance on account sharing.
The Premium plan, at $24.99/month, is the top-tier offering from Netflix, catering to those who want the ultimate viewing experience. It supports streaming on four devices at once and downloading on six devices, ensuring everyone in larger households can enjoy Netflix without interruption. The plan also includes Ultra HD streaming, ideal for those with 4K TVs, and introduces Netflix spatial audio, which enhances the audio experience without the need for additional equipment. Additionally, you can add up to two extra members outside your home for $6.99/month each (with ads) or $8.99/month each (without ads).
