Netflix Games has canceled five upcoming titles, adding to the recent cancellation of Don't Starve Together. The axed games include Tales of the Shire, Compass Point: West, Lab Rat, Rotwood, and Thirsty Suitors. This news comes from What's on Netflix, citing an internal source. The cancellations suggest a broader shift in Netflix Games' strategy.
A recent Netflix investor call hinted at a focus on narrative-driven games, aligning with the successful Netflix Stories anthology. This strategic shift appears to be impacting the wider game catalog, leading to the abrupt cancellations.
The cancellation of titles like Tales of the Shire, particularly given its association with the popular Lord of the Rings franchise, suggests that even high-profile games are not immune to this new direction. This raises concerns about the future of non-Netflix-branded games on the platform.
While several excellent games remain available on Netflix Games, this news underscores the platform's evolving priorities. Now might be a good time to revisit our ranking of the top 10 best Netflix Games before more changes occur.
