The highly anticipated Monopoly movie from Lionsgate has finally found its screenwriters in John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, known for their work on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
This announcement comes as Daley and Goldstein are set to pen the screenplay for the film, which is being produced by Margot Robbie through her production company, LuckyChap. Previously, it was revealed that the project aligns with Robbie's vision as part of her ongoing collaboration with Hasbro.
[ttpp]As accomplished writers and directors, Daley and Goldstein bring experience from diverse projects such as Mayday, The Flash, and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Their involvement marks a fresh start for the Monopoly adaptation, following years of development limbo.[/ttpp]
Back in 2007, Ridley Scott reportedly showed interest in directing the film, while in 2011, Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski were tasked with writing the script. Later, in 2015, Andrew Niccol penned another version for Lionsgate and Hasbro. Additional buzz surfaced in 2019 when Kevin Hart and Tim Story were rumored to join the project.
However, Lionsgate's acquisition of eOne from Hasbro appears to have reignited the effort, promising a renewed approach for this iconic board game adaptation. Here’s hoping this iteration successfully crosses the finish line.
