Just after unveiling 26 additional cast members for the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel Studios and Robert Downey Jr. hinted that more announcements are coming.
The studio recently revealed its star-studded lineup during an extensive livestream that confirmed principal photography has begun on the superhero epic starring Downey Jr. Among surprise reveals was Channing Tatum returning as fan-favorite X-Men character Gambit. View the complete Avengers: Doomsday casting announcement here.
However, several major MCU figures remain conspicuously absent from the revealed ensemble. Tom Holland's Spider-Man currently has no announced involvement, nor does Chris Evans - despite previous reports suggesting his return for either Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars, which Evans subsequently denied.
Other notable omissions include Hulk, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, and War Machine. From the X-Men roster, Deadpool, Wolverine, Storm, and Jean Grey haven't been confirmed.
While fans expressed disappointment over their favorite heroes' apparent exclusion, Robert Downey Jr. - transitioning from Iron Man to Doctor Doom - teased potential future reveals: "That's what u call a deep bench of talent," the actor posted on Instagram. "Actually it's more like a row, but an extra long one... That must be it.. right?"

Marvel hinted at additional casting news in the comments, stating "there's always room for more." Directors Joe and Anthony Russo added cryptically: "It's time..."
The studio clearly has more casting reveals planned before Avengers: Doomsday begins production. Which Marvel heroes and villains could still join the roster? Share your predictions below.
Earlier this month, the Russo brothers described Avengers 5 and 6 as launching a "new beginning" that will establish MCU's Phase 7 foundation.
"We love villains who think they're the heroes of their own stories," Joe Russo explained. "That creates three-dimensional characters - especially crucial when working with actors like Robert Downey Jr. This remains our creative focus."
Avengers: Doomsday arrives May 1, 2026, followed by Secret Wars in May 2027. Marvel's upcoming slate includes Thunderbolts* (May 2025), Ironheart (June 2025), and Phase 6's kickoff with The Fantastic Four: First Steps this July.
The studio recently added three untitled 2028 films to its release calendar (February 18, May 5, and November 10), with strong speculation suggesting one may feature the X-Men.
