The Lenovo Legion Tower 5 Gen 8 gaming PC is packed with an AMD Ryzen 7 7700 CPU, a GeForce RTX 4070 Super GPU, 16GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD. The Ryzen 7 7700 boasts a max boost clock of 5.3GHz, with 8 cores, 16 threads, and a 32MB L3 cache. It's efficiently cooled by a 120mm tower heatsink fan. In terms of gaming prowess, the Ryzen 7 7700 matches the performance of a 13th gen Intel Core i7, particularly at higher resolutions where the GPU becomes the limiting factor. It's also a robust choice for most workstation tasks.
The GeForce RTX 4070 Super is a stellar choice for running modern games at up to 1440p. Its performance is remarkably close to the newer RTX 5070, as noted by Jacqueline Thomas in her review: "while the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 has a decent uplift over the RTX 4070, it falls on its face as soon as the RTX 4070 Super enters the conversation" and "across all tests at all resolutions, the RTX 5070 was on average just 4% faster than the RTX 4070 Super".
Nvidia RTX 4070 Super Review by Jacqueline Thomas
"The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Super is the $600 graphics card we should have got back when Nvidia first released its 4000-series cards. Performance is significantly improved over the original RTX 4070, along with more VRAM that should make the graphics card a little bit more future-proof. All of that and Nvidia luckily kept the original launch price of $599 instead of giving a price-weary PC gaming audience yet another leap for a supposed 'mid-range' card. But if you are in the market for a GPU and you have a budget of $599, this is the best graphics card on the market for you."
Lenovo's approach to building gaming PCs is highly appreciated by users. They avoid using proprietary components, making their Legion gaming PCs easy to upgrade with readily available parts. Additionally, Lenovo's gaming rigs are known for their effective cooling solutions, particularly for the CPU, even with the more budget-friendly air-cooled options.
