Larian Studios has surprised fans by announcing a significant update for Baldur's Gate 3 in 2025, defying expectations that Patch 7 would be the final major update. This substantial update will include highly anticipated features like cross-play support and a photo mode, but the real highlight is the introduction of twelve brand-new subclasses, each promising unique and exciting gameplay mechanics.
While details on four subclasses have already been revealed, let's delve into the remaining eight:
Oath of the Crown Paladin: This paladin subclass champions justice and societal well-being. Their signature ability, Divine Devotion, allows them to absorb incoming damage meant for allies, restoring their health in the process.
Arcane Archer: Blending martial skill with arcane magic, the Arcane Archer fires enchanted arrows with devastating effects. These arrows can blind, weaken, or even banish enemies to the Feywild until their next turn. Furthermore, missed shots can be redirected mid-flight to hit another enemy.
Drunken Master Monk: This unorthodox monk incorporates alcohol into their fighting style. A signature move intoxicates opponents, leaving them disoriented while simultaneously enhancing the monk's own capabilities. Using Instant Sobriety on an intoxicated target unleashes a powerful attack inflicting both physical and mental damage.
Swarmkeeper Ranger: Harnessing the power of nature, the Swarmkeeper Ranger commands swarms of creatures. These swarms act as both shields, protecting the ranger from harm, and assist with teleportation. In combat, they can deploy three distinct swarms: electric jellyfish clusters, blinding moth clouds, and stinging bee legions that can knock back enemies failing a strength check by 4.5 meters.
