The popular beat 'em up ARPG, King of Fighters ALLSTAR, will be ending service on October 30th, 2024. This announcement, made via the official Netmarble forums, confirms the closure after more than six years of operation. In-game purchases have already been disabled.
The closure comes as a surprise, given the game's longevity and numerous high-profile collaborations with other fighting game franchises. While the official statement hints at a lack of new fighters to adapt from the King of Fighters roster as a contributing factor, it's likely not the sole reason for the decision.
The shutdown of King of Fighters ALLSTAR sadly continues a trend of long-running mobile live-service games closing their doors in 2024. This highlights the inherent challenges and risks associated with maintaining these titles, even within the thriving mobile gaming market.
