Keanu Reeves has delivered the most exciting update yet about the long-awaited sequel to the 2005 cult hit, Constantine. As the iconic John Constantine, an occult detective and exorcist from DC Comics, Reeves has been eager to revisit the character for over a decade. Following his success with The Matrix, fans have been clamoring for a sequel, and it seems their wishes might finally come true.
In a recent interview with Inverse, Reeves shared that he and the team have pitched a story to DC Studios, and it has been greenlit for script development. "We've been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay,'" Reeves stated. "So, we're going to try and write a script."

While this news is certainly promising, it's important to note that there's no guarantee that Constantine 2 will be officially greenlit by DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran. The sequel is not yet a confirmed project in the rebooted DCU, and neither Gunn nor Safran have mentioned it as a possibility. Thus, the project remains on the edge of possibility.
Reeves teased that if Constantine 2 does come to fruition, it will be set in "the same world" as the original film. "We're not going off that," he assured fans, adding with a humorous note, "John Constantine's going to be tortured even more."
This update follows comments from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who in September revealed to ComicBook that a script for Constantine 2 was already in his inbox. However, he admitted he was too scared to read it due to his high hopes for its quality. "You know it's in my inbox right now, funny enough,” di Bonaventura shared. “I'm too scared to read it, though, I want it to be good so bad. I’ll probably read it in the next few days, when I get on an airplane."
