Lanterns is an upcoming DC TV show that’s described as a detective drama, drawing inspiration from acclaimed series like True Detective and Slow Horses. In the series, Chandler’s Hal Jordan teams up with Pierre’s John Stewart to unravel a murder mystery that spirals into an even deeper, darker enigma. This show is a confirmed part of James Gunn’s expansive DC universe, which also encompasses Creature Commando and the eagerly awaited Superman and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow films.
The series was crafted by the talented trio of Damon Lindelof, known for his work on Lost, alongside Chris Mundy and Tom King. James Gunn has emphasized that Lanterns will adopt a darker, more grounded tone, describing it as "very believable, very real. The kind of things that you would never think would be the truth about a Green Lanterns television series."
Kyle Chandler, celebrated for his role in the drama Friday Night Lights, brings to life an older version of Hal Jordan. Meanwhile, Aaron Pierre, who made an impact with his performance in Rebel Ridge, steps into the shoes of John Stewart. Lanterns is slated for a 2026 premiere, aligning with the release year of the Supergirl movie.
