Guide: Catching a Shooting Star in Monster Hunter Wilds

May 03,2025 Author: Sebastian

In the expansive world of *Monster Hunter Wilds*, where the thrill of the hunt often centers on colossal beasts, there's a unique achievement that shifts your focus to the tiniest of creatures. Unlocking the 'I Caught a Shooting Star!' trophy/achievement requires you to find and capture the elusive **Sandstar**, a small desert mouse-like creature with shimmering fur, found only in the **Windward Plains**.

The 'I Caught a Shooting Star!' hidden trophy/achievement is both simple and elusive. This achievement requires capturing the Sandstar, which can only be found at night in a specific part of the Windward Plains. Given that your adventures often take place during the day, you'll need to manipulate the in-game time to reach nightfall.

There are two effective methods to pass time until night falls:

  • Fast Travel - Available early in the game, once you unlock multiple fast travel points in the Windward Plains. Use your interactive map to fast travel between points, which will progress time until it's night.
  • Rest - This option becomes available after completing Chapter 3 and unlocking high-rank content. Use your Guild Points at a base or pop-up camp to rest and choose the time of day (Morning, Daytime, Evening, or Nighttime) along with environmental conditions (No Change, Fallow, Plenty, or Inclemency).

The Sandstar is not only small but also incredibly fast, making it a challenging target even on your Seikret. To increase your chances of capturing it, gather **Screamer Pods** from **Baunos**, small winged scavengers found in groups around **Area 11** and **Area 13** of the Windward Plains. These pods aren't mandatory but will significantly ease the capture process.

Once it's night in the Windward Plains, head to the midpoint between Area 11 and Area 13. Keep a keen eye out for the Sandstar. When you spot it, chase it at full speed and, if you have them, prepare your Screamer Pods. When you're close enough, shoot a Screamer Pod at the Sandstar to stun it. Quickly switch to your **Capture Net** (used for fishing as well) and throw it at the stunned Sandstar to capture it. Upon successful capture, the 'I Caught a Shooting Star!' trophy/achievement will unlock, and you'll receive the **Ribbon Dream: Amber** nameplate for your Hunter Profile.
