George R.R. Martin hints at a potential Elden Ring movie, but his involvement remains uncertain. The Game of Thrones author, credited with creating the world and history of the best-selling 2022 game, addressed the possibility during IGN Fan Fest 2025. While sidestepping questions about a sequel, Martin confirmed discussions regarding an Elden Ring film adaptation are underway.

This isn't the first such suggestion; FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki previously expressed openness to an adaptation, provided a strong collaborative partner emerged to handle the production. Miyazaki highlighted FromSoftware's lack of expertise in film production as a key reason for needing external collaboration.

However, Martin acknowledged a potential obstacle: his ongoing work on The Winds of Winter. The long-awaited sixth book in A Song of Ice and Fire series continues to face significant delays, potentially limiting his participation in any Elden Ring film project. Martin's comments echo previous statements regarding the book's protracted development.

Martin detailed his contributions to Elden Ring's world-building, explaining his collaboration with FromSoftware to establish the game's rich history preceding the present-day events. He described multiple sessions with the development team, showcasing the iterative process of bringing his ideas to life within the game's universe. Martin also implied that unused world-building material exists, potentially suitable for future projects.
