Genshin Impact 5.5: Varesa or Xiao - Who to Pull?

Apr 08,2025 Author: Joshua

In *Genshin Impact* Version 5.5, set to launch on March 26, two new characters are introduced: Varesa, a 5-Star Electro Catalyst, and Iansan, a 4-Star Electro Polearm. The Version 5.5 livestream showcased their kits, with Varesa's standing out due to its similarity to Xiao's playstyle.

How Is Varesa’s Playstyle Similar to Xiao’s in Genshin Impact?

Varesa's kit is unique and engaging, particularly with her Charged Attacks. She launches herself into the air, enabling Plunging Attacks while generating Nightsoul Points. As a character from Natlan, her Charged Attack is central to her gameplay, focusing on generating these points.

Her Elemental Skill, Riding the Night-Rainbow, transforms her into a luchador pro wrestler, rushing forward and dealing Electro DMG. Following this, her Normal Attacks become Plunging Attacks without consuming stamina, echoing Xiao's playstyle when he uses his Elemental Burst, Bane of All Evil, to perform consecutive Plunging Attacks.

After accumulating enough Plunging Attacks, Varesa can enter a masked luchador state called Fiery Passion if her Nightsoul Meter is full, enhancing her attacks and Burst. This makes Plunging Attacks a crucial part of her gameplay.

Should You Stick to Xiao or Pull for Varesa in Genshin Impact?

The key difference between Xiao and Varesa's Plunging Attack playstyle is that Xiao needs his Elemental Burst to enable continuous Plunging Attacks, while Varesa can initiate them with her Charged Attacks. This allows her to enter a more powerful state and continue executing Plunging Attacks, making her a versatile choice.

If you enjoy Xiao's playstyle and are looking for a similar yet distinct experience, Varesa could be a worthwhile addition. Her independence from her Elemental Burst for Plunging Attacks is a significant advantage. Additionally, she synergizes well with other Natlan characters, leveraging the Nightsoul's Blessing.

However, consider that Xianyun, an excellent support for Plunging Attack characters like Xiao, will be available alongside Varesa in *Genshin Impact* 5.5 (Phase I). If you already have Xiao and lack Xianyun, pulling for her might be more beneficial. Otherwise, Varesa offers a fresh yet familiar gameplay experience.

*Genshin Impact is available to play now.*
