Navigating the vast battlefields of Dynasty Warriors: Origins can be quite the challenge, especially when you need to reach other officers swiftly to turn the tide of battle. While there's no direct sprint button—your character will naturally break into a sprint after a few steps—using a horse can be a game-changer. Your trusty steed can be summoned at any time, whether you're exploring the overworld or in the thick of combat, and even allows for dynamic hit-and-run tactics. Here’s how you can unlock your first horse, level it up, and switch between different horses to optimize your strategy.
How To Unlock The First Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Unlocking your first horse in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is straightforward and happens during Chapter 1. After you triumph in the "Test Of Zheng Fei," the second major battle, a merchant will appear in the overworld as you journey towards the Battle Of Guangzong. You'll find him standing next to his horse, northeast of Wan Castle but before you reach the camp. Simply engage in a conversation with the merchant, and he'll gift you the horse, which will be automatically equipped for your use.
To summon your horse and mount it instantly, press down on the left joystick if you're on a console, or press the 'V' key on your keyboard.
How To Level Up Your Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Leveling up your horse is crucial for enhancing its abilities. Your horse gains XP every time you complete a mission or a main story battle with it equipped, regardless of whether you actively use it during the fight. Note, however, that your horse does not earn XP from Skirmishes. Missions, marked by a red diamond with a soldier icon, are your key to earning XP. The amount of XP your horse earns depends on the battle's duration and how much you utilize your horse, especially for charging into enemies. As your horse levels up, it gains unique buffs at various intervals, with each horse having its own set of enhancements.
How To Switch Horses In Dynasty Warriors: Origins
While your first horse is automatically equipped, Dynasty Warriors: Origins offers the chance to ride different steeds with varying perks. You can switch horses in the Battle Preparation menu, found as the final option on the left side of the screen. Each horse boasts different advantages, with some being faster or more suited to certain combat styles.
To acquire new horses, you must raise the peace level of a region to its maximum. Upon achieving this, a new horse will be left at a nearby waypoint as a reward, ready for you to claim and integrate into your strategy.
