When Square Enix launched the captivating monster collecting RPG *Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince* on the Nintendo Switch last year, I was immediately drawn in. Despite some technical hiccups, the game's charm and engaging gameplay loop set it apart from other *Dragon Quest* spinoffs, rivaling the excellence of *Dragon Quest Builders 2*. Initially, I anticipated a quick port to PC, similar to *Dragon Quest Treasures*, but a mobile release seemed far-fetched. However, Square Enix surprised us all by announcing that *Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince* ($23.99) will be making its way to iOS, Android, and Steam on September 11th, complete with all previously released DLC, including the *Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince* Digital Deluxe Edition content. You can get a glimpse of what to expect by watching the trailer below:
Square Enix has also shared comparison images showcasing the game on mobile, Switch, and Steam on their official Japanese website. Here's one to give you an idea:
However, it's worth noting that the store pages reveal that the network mode for Online Battles, a feature available in the Switch version where players engage in real-time battles, will not be included in the Steam and mobile versions.
Currently, *Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince* is available on Nintendo Switch at $59.99 for the standard edition and $84.99 for the Digital Deluxe Edition. Having thoroughly enjoyed it on Switch, I am eager to revisit it for review on iPhone, iPad, and Steam Deck when it launches on the new platforms on September 11th. It's refreshing to see Square Enix quickly expanding *Dragon Quest* to mobile platforms soon after the initial release. I had expected a mobile release around 2027, given the usual delays between console and mobile for this series, as seen with *Dragon Quest Builders*. The game is priced at $29.99 on mobile and $39.99 on Steam. You can pre-register for it on the App Store for iOS [ttpp] and on Google Play for Android [ttpp]. Are you a fan who has already experienced *Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince* on Switch, or will you be giving it a try on mobile and Steam when it launches in two weeks?
