However, as the news of Cow's inclusion spread, fans stumbled upon a curious detail in the Nintendo Direct 2 trailer from Wednesday. In it, Mario was seen eating a burger, leading to a burning question among fans: Since burgers are typically made of beef, would Cow, whose species might be a source of beef, eat beef herself?

At the Nintendo preview event, we got our answer. The food items spotted in the trailer are available at Yoshi's diner locations scattered throughout the courses. These diners work like drive-thrus, allowing racers to grab take-out bags similar to item boxes. Inside these bags, you can find a variety of foods, including burgers, steak kebabs, pizza, and donuts.

And yes, Cow can eat them all.

During our session, we witnessed Cow consuming various items, including burgers. We're still unsure about what these items do for Cow, as other racers undergo costume changes when eating them, but Cow shows no visible effects. Is she eating beef simply because she enjoys it? Could there be a hidden power-up from consuming these burgers that Nintendo hasn't revealed yet? Or are these perhaps veggie burgers and plant-based kebabs?

IGN reached out to Nintendo for clarification, but we're yet to receive a response. It's likely due to their busy schedule at the New York event, and not because our question about Cow's dietary habits is outlandish. Yes, that must be it.
