Who doesn't love a pirate-themed game, especially one that involves racing ships around an archipelago of islands? And when it's on sale, it's even better! Glory Islands, brought to you by Rio Grande Games, usually retails for $45, but you can snag it on Amazon right now for the specific price of $32.17. That's a 28% discount, making it a great deal.
In Glory Islands, you'll be strategically dropping off your crew onto various spaces, aiming to win treasure and score points through a delightful mix of mechanics that come together seamlessly. The movement of your ship is controlled by playing numeric cards from your hand, which also come with special powers. For instance, playing a five allows you to pause and drop a second pirate. However, be cautious, as using too many high-value cards will cost you points at the end of the game. Occupying an island space earns you small bonuses, but once an island is full, the player with the most crew members there scores a significant number of points.
Glory Islands is a fast-paced, fun, and family-friendly board game. While it may not have the depth to keep hardcore hobbyists engaged over multiple plays, it's incredibly enjoyable, especially at this sale price. Balancing the race with strategic placement of your crew to score points, all while avoiding penalties for reckless sailing, is surprisingly challenging. There's real tension as you watch where other players place their sailors, as islands you thought were secure can quickly shift out of your control.
The game also features charming wooden ships and sailor pieces, along with miniature barrels of rum, making you feel like a true pirate king.
