As if they could resist bringing back Alicia Silverstone in her iconic yellow and plaid ensemble. The beloved actress is set to reprise her role as Cher Horowitz in a highly anticipated Clueless sequel series, which will be available on Peacock.
According to Variety, the series is in the development phase with Peacock, and while plot details are under wraps, we know that Silverstone will be returning, and the show will continue the narrative from the original 1995 film. This project marks a fresh start, distinct from the Clueless spin-off that Peacock had planned back in 2020.
The creative team behind this new venture includes Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, renowned for their work on the original Gossip Girl series and its reboot, who will co-write the series with Jordan Weiss. All three will also serve as executive producers, joined by Amy Heckerling, the writer-director of the original Clueless movie, and Robert Lawrence, the film's original producer. CBS Studios and Universal Television are set to produce the series.
This isn't the first time Clueless has been adapted for television. Following the film's success, a TV version ran on ABC and UPN from 1996 to 1999, with Rachel Blanchard stepping into the role of Cher instead of Silverstone.
Silverstone's recent appearance as Cher in a 2023 Super Bowl commercial for Rakuten shows her eagerness to revisit the character. It's no surprise, given how much fans adore her portrayal of Cher Horowitz.
