Since *Fields of Mistria* launched in Early Access on Steam, players have spotted the Deep Woods marked on the town map - though the area remained inaccessible until the March 2025 update. Here's how to unlock this mysterious location and locate Caldarus in *Fields of Mistria*.
The Deep Woods becomes accessible after breaking the Fire Seal and acquiring the Dragon's Breath spell to clear obstructive vines. To achieve this, you'll need to place four specific offerings on the Priestess' altar at Mine Floor 60: a Faceted Rock Gem, Rockroot, Emerald, and Sealing Scroll. While the first three items can be gathered between floors 50-59, obtaining the scroll requires collaborating with Juniper and Balor.

After fulfilling these requirements, speak with Balor to receive the scroll the following day. Unlike previous seal-breaking rituals, completing this task takes an unexpected turn when the Priestess frantically warns you to evacuate as the Sealing Scroll activates prematurely. When you collapse from exhaustion, Caldarus appears in human form and transports you to his Deep Woods temple to recover while regaining his own strength.
Before departing, Caldarus grants you the powerful Dragon's Breath spell. This combat ability serves dual purposes - it permanently removes the vines blocking the Deep Woods entrance and reveals other hidden map areas. Simply equip the spell from your menu and activate it while facing blocked pathways to gain access to new locations.
After breaking the Fire Seal, you'll find Caldarus recuperating in his temple deep within the northern sector of the Deep Woods, north of the Eastern Road. Like other NPCs, his location appears on your map. To reach him, enter the Deep Woods and immediately turn right, using your axe to remove a blocking stump before proceeding north to the temple.
The Deep Woods Dragon Statue on your farm offers convenient transport to the area for just 10 Essence. You can also communicate with Caldarus through this statue when unavailable in person.
