The Samsung S85D stands out as the most budget-friendly option in Samsung's 2024 OLED lineup. Unlike the pricier S90D, which features a quantum dot OLED panel and costs $500 more, the S85D employs a standard W-OLED panel. When it comes to image quality, it matches up well with the LG B4 OLED TV, which is $200 more expensive. As a true OLED panel, the S85D offers nearly instantaneous response times, an almost infinite contrast ratio, and true blacks, making it superior for most applications. For those worried about burn-in, it's worth noting that this issue is more common with computer monitors featuring static images, and less so with TVs.
The Samsung S85D is equipped with all the essential features desired in a modern gaming TV, including HDMI 2.1 ports and a native 120Hz panel for seamless 4K gaming at 120Hz on a PS5 or Xbox Series X. It also supports variable refresh rates and auto low latency mode, making it an excellent choice for the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro, which can run most games at true 4K resolution and 120Hz.
At present, this is the lowest price available for a brand new, fully warrantied 65" OLED TV, particularly if you prefer a reputable brand like Samsung. The 2025 OLED TVs are expected to offer only incremental upgrades, such as slightly faster processors or improved anti-glare films, while the panel technology remains largely the same as in 2024 models.
