If you're in the market for a substantial amount of local storage, you're in luck with one of the best deals currently available. For a limited time, Amazon is offering the massive Seagate Expansion 22TB USB 3.0 Desktop Hard Drive at a discounted price of $249.99, shipped. This deal translates to just $11.36 per terabyte of storage, a remarkable value. The drive is being sold by a marketplace vendor, QuickDealStore, which boasts an 85% rating from 460 reviews over the past year. As with all Amazon purchases, you're covered by a 30-day guaranteed return policy.
Update: Seagate's online store is also offering this drive for an even lower price of $239.99.
The Seagate Expansion comes equipped with a single 22TB disk drive, ensuring it remains compact like other desktop hard drives. It features a USB 3.0 interface, which won't bottleneck the traditional hard drive speeds, and includes a USB 3.0 cable in the package. Additionally, it comes with recovery software and is automatically recognized by both Windows and Mac computers.
While SSDs have gained popularity, traditional hard drives remain the superior choice for long-term storage. Not only are hard drives significantly more affordable—offering this drive at $11.36 per terabyte compared to at least $50 per terabyte for SSDs—they also offer much higher maximum capacities. Consumer SSDs typically top out at 8TB, which is dwarfed by the 22TB capacity of this drive. Moreover, although SSDs may match HDDs in terms of lifespan, data recovery from a failed HDD is generally easier than from an SSD.
