While the Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings movies are widely celebrated, they weren't the first cinematic adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic saga. The initial foray into bringing Tolkien's world to the screen was the animated version of "The Hobbit," released in 1977. Following closely, "The Lord of the Rings" was brought to life in animated form in 1978.
Whether you're a long-time fan or just discovering these classics, now is the perfect time to dive in. The remastered deluxe edition of the 1978 animated "Lord of the Rings" movie is currently available on Amazon for an unbeatable price of just $5.
Remastered Deluxe Edition
The 1978 version of "The Lord of the Rings" is a unique blend of traditional cel animation and rotoscoped live-action footage. This innovative approach led to some charming quirks, such as a scene where Aragorn trips and falls—a spontaneous moment that was animated over and kept in the film. These little details add to the charm and make it a must-watch for any Tolkien enthusiast.
At just $5, this DVD is a fantastic deal. The remastered version ensures a high-quality viewing experience, making it a valuable addition to your Lord of the Rings collection, even if you're not planning to watch it immediately. If you're looking for more deals, don't miss out on the ongoing Amazon Presidents' Day sale.
If you'd rather not spend the $5, you're in luck. The 1978 "Lord of the Rings" movie is available to stream on Max, alongside the rest of the Lord of the Rings series, including the animated "Hobbit" movie.
