When it comes to development hubs, one of the less discussed areas of the world is India. However, we've often highlighted upcoming projects like Indus Battle Royale, pondering the future of Indian game development. That future might be here now with the upcoming 3D platformer, Lokko.
Lokko is a creation of the India-based developer Appy Monkeys, developed in collaboration with Sony's India Hero Project. This incubator program works with Indian developers to help them craft their next big release. Lokko, a result of this partnership, is a 3D platformer that includes level editors and a comprehensive avatar creator. The game's premise is both fun and challenging—players must deliver pizzas on time while battling the monopolistic Goobol food corporation.
One of the most intriguing aspects of Lokko is its cross-platform and cross-play compatibility, allowing seamless gameplay across mobile, PC, and PS5. Additionally, Lokko leverages the power of Dualshock controllers on all supported platforms, enhancing the gaming experience with familiar controls.
Lokko-motionLokko incorporates many elements that have proven successful in modern gaming, such as character customization, level creation, and a low-poly aesthetic reminiscent of Roblox. Yet, with the backing of PlayStation, Lokko has the potential to become a credible alternative to similar platforms.
In terms of gameplay, Lokko doesn't aim to reinvent the wheel, but that's not necessarily a drawback. The developers at Appy Monkeys have crafted an engaging experience, and I'm eagerly anticipating what else will emerge from the India Hero Project.
Although we don't have a specific release date for Lokko beyond "sometime this year," fans of indie games can still dive into another cross-platform title, the eldritch fishing simulator Dredge from Black Salt Games.
